What can I say, but thank you! Your unique, extraordinarily powerful creations and ideas have enriched the lives of millions. You have bestowed wondrous beauty upon this world. You have rendered immeasurable service for the causes of morality and peace, and were an early, rare voice in support of the dignity of the American Indian, and in opposition to the terrible evil perpetrated against that great race. You have instilled profound and enduring values in countless children for generations, and have shared with all your readers your deepest contemplation and most elevated ideals.

Your legacy is rich and vast. May it remain immortal.

You are not forgotten by many good people - Karl May, Old Shatterhand, Kara ben Nemsi. You have been the companion of my young years, and I read and enjoy your books even now - as you correctly predicted when you said your books are for young and also mature people to read. It is my sincere wish the memory of you and your work should stay with us forever.

For the anniversary year 2012 a special Karl May post stamp is contemplated in Germany. A Winnetou post stamp has been issued some years ago.

Bill, I hope that the process will move from “contemplation” to “confirmation” soon. The fact that Karl May is deserving of the stamp is beyond question :D (though I must admit that I have always found it a little unsettling to commemorate the date of a person’s passing). Are there any projected designs for the new stamp? :?:

Is the Winnetou stamp you mentioned the 1987 Karl May stamp with the picture of Winnetou by Carl Lindeberg? I would like to find one of those, but have not found it listed at the on-line stamp sellers I have tried. :(

Hello Philip - indeed it is the post stamp issued by the German Post Master General in 1987 with the picture of Winnetou by Carl Lindeberg.

There is a w-page on this:

As the post stamp is a rarity I wouldn't mind acquiring it myself!
