At Christmas one hundred and forty seven years ago Karl May started his bitter journey into Ardistan. Two excellent photos from the places where it all happened could be seen on:

Merry Christmas to all Karl May friends!

Bill.

Karl May was born on the 25th February 1842. A man whose writings and life story has not been forgotten over all those years since then. Who was he? What makes his books still being read even today? Many opinions have been published in the distant and near past, yet Karl May still remains an enigma. A newcomer to the English speaking world could wonder why this delayed popularity after his books conquered other countries - well, many people did have their say. Could it be that Karl May still has something positive to say to the contemporary world? A message of peace and tolerance amongst peoples?

And there are some of us who love to read Karl May's creation of his magnificent world, which he said was meant for the young ones and the young at heart ones.

Written in rememberance of Karl May's birthday - and many happy returns for years to come!

Several thousand miles to the East where Karl May was born, in Indonesia, every February and/or March, his readers make a "gathering" to discuss his works and its relevancy to the current issue. In this 2009, it was done with the cooperation and support of the Indonesian News Agency (Antara), no wonder the news spread out through the country.

Hello Gono - this is really interesting! Apart from Germany there are as far as I know regular meetings of Karl May friends in the Czech Republic and I heard there will be one in the US in a year or so as well.

Let us know more about your last meeting - even better send a photo!
